Tip #1: Set realistic expectations
As entrepreneurs, we tend to have superhero syndrome. We underestimate the amount of time that it’s going to take to accomplish a goal, but we overestimate how much we can do.
I used to have ten or more items on my to-do list every day, and it was impossible to accomplish unless I worked every second. The next day I would feel bad, because even though I would accomplish two or three big, amazing things that were moving my business forward, I would be focusing on the seven things I didn’t get to.
Then, I attended a mastermind with Amy Porterfield that taught me that every day, you should set yourself up for success. This means only writing down one to three things on your to do list. When you start to do this, you will enjoy it and you will accomplish your tasks and feel excited when they are completed.
Tip #2: Cheer yourself on every time you move toward your goal
It’s important not to wait until you achieve this big goal of success you have associated with your business. Learn to edify yourself.
Tell yourself that you are the best and that every day you are moving your business forward. If you take one step toward your goal, you have to cheer yourself on.
Tip #3: Put things in proper perspective
A lot of times we compare ourselves to other people. What happens then is that we compare our beginning to somebody else’s middle. All of us do it, but this can cause you to lose perspective.
Everything in this universe moves toward disorder. If you do not stand guard at the door of your mind, you by default are not going to have a happy life or a successful business. We’ve got to protect ourselves from silly comparisons. We may see someone successful, but what we don’t see is ten years of them laying the foundation.
Tip #4: Treat yourself like you would your best friend
Isn’t it fascinating how we can look at someone else and accurately examine the facts to point them to a solution, but when it comes to ourselves, we can’t? You can’t see the picture when you’re in the frame. So pretend that your best friend is experiencing what you are experiencing right now. You will notice that your mindset shifts, and you may easily be able to find the solution.
Tip #5: You’ve got to challenge your inner critic
You cannot control the first thought that hits you, but you can control the second. Become a master of managing your own inner strength. Never say I’m not good enough, or it’s too difficult. This is speaking death over yourself. If you learn to redirect these “loser thoughts”, as I call them, you can overcome them.
To do this, make sure that every single day you have systems in place. Maybe in the shower, you listen to thirty minutes of personal development. Or, when you brush your teeth, you do affirmations. Create rituals for every day where you are building up your inner strength.
If you follow these five tips, you can overcome a negative mindset and continue on the path to success. Your time is your most precious commodity, and your time is way too valuable to feel bad about what you did not do. Learn to conquer your mindset so you can come one step closer to your goal every day.
